MATT BARR

Matt Barr, a native of Payson, AZ, discovered his passion for music at the age of 8 when he picked up his grandfather’s 1942 Gibson guitar. Despite being surrounded by exceptional athletes in his family of five boys, Matt’s inclination towards music over sports was influenced by his father’s involvement as a drummer in church and local bands. Spending weekends of his childhood watching his father’s band practice fostered a mutual love for music.  Following his graduation from Payson High School, Matt relocated to San Diego to pursue a music career while attending seminary. After a year and a half in seminary, he relocated and spent five years in Lahaina, Maui. However, the tragic death of his older brother prompted his return to the mainland. For the next decade, Matt worked in various oilfields across the country as a heavy equipment maintenance technician, with music temporarily taking a backseat. After establishing his own business in oil and gas services in Odessa, TX, Matt faced setbacks during the pandemic, leading to the dissolution of his business. Encouraged by friends and former employees, he decided to reignite his musical passion. A chance encounter with prolific songwriter Brandon Howard changed the trajectory of Matt’s life. Joining Brandon’s band as the lead guitarist, harmony vocalist, and a co-writer, Matt formed a close bond with Brandon, akin to that of brothers. Although they are not currently in the same band, Matt and Brandon continue to collaborate on songwriting, supporting each other in their solo careers.  Matt released singles that caught the attention of Broken Road Records. Presently, Matt is fully immersed in making music and thriving in his element.
